At a committee meeting on May 12, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser said the processing times for most application inventories should be back to standard processing times by the end of the year. For GBPEI’s clients that means that the PEI PNP Permanent Residency application process should return to the average of 12 to 18 months instead of the current 2.5 year wait.

At this meeting of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, Minister Fraser also said the Government of Canada is working to address the country’s antiquated immigration system. IRCC is currently modernizing and digitizing more application streams. Also, in the budget there is $85 million allocated to hiring more staff to reduce the processing times for inventories including study permits, work permits, temporary resident visas and proof of citizenship.
