Stratford is located just minutes southeast of Charlottetown, the capital city of Prince Edward Island. From Stratford, it takes less than 10 minutes to drive to the provincial airport or downtown Charlottetown and less than an hour to reach either the Confederation Bridge or Wood Islands Ferry.
With a growing population of over 10,000 persons, Stratford is a full-service community covering a land area of 22.1 square km. While Stratford is an urban community, it still has many active farms giving the Town a peaceful rural character. Stratford is bordered on three sides by the Hillsborough River and Northumberland Strait creating scenic views for residents. Known as a safe community, Stratford has beautiful neighborhoods, excellent parks and an expanding network of trails, sidewalks and bicycle paths that offer a desirable quality of life for our residents.
Stratford established a Diversity and Inclusion program in 2009 in order to create a more welcoming community and ensure that all citizens, regardless of race, creed, religion, ability, sexual orientation or other factor, feel welcome and can participate fully in community life. We have seen tremendous growth in our immigrant population as evidenced by the number of residents whose mother tongue is neither English nor French, which grew from 370 in the 2011 census to 845 in the 2016 census.
Stratford prides itself in our parkland development, from the more established parks including Tea Hill Park and Robert L. Cotton Memorial Park, to the newer, and still developing, Fullerton’s Creek Conservation Park, our community boasts over 300 acres of greenspace. The Town also has public beaches, playgrounds, soccer and baseball fields, tennis courts, and many more recreational facilities to be enjoyed including the attractive Fox Meadow Golf Course.
Stratford is home to a public library, local police and fire stations, restaurants, daycares, public schools, grocery, pharmacy and liquor stores, medical, dental and veterinarian clinics, senior and youth centres, and many more amenities, businesses and services.
In addition the Town of Stratford has an impressive Town Centre which provides functional meeting rooms, fitness equipment, a running/walking track and gymnasium, a stage, change rooms including showers and our municipal offices.
Our business community is growing and the Town of Stratford is committed to supporting town businesses through ongoing dialogue and initiatives like our “Think!Stratford” campaign, which reminds residents to think Stratford when you buy goods and services, play or explore. In addition to businesses that help the provincial economy, Stratford welcomes businesses that support the needs of local businesses and residents.
